Spellbound Rollers - Post Jam Update
Spellbound Rollers » Devlog
Before I start I just want to say thank you so much to everyone that has supported us! We have had over 110 ratings in the GMTK jam and many more people checking the game out. Your support means the world and allows us to keep working on the project.
If anyone is interested in following development on the project or seeing the stuff we make in the future feel free to join our discord: https://discord.gg/JqmaaY32Kt. We are currently looking for people to join us for the upcoming brackeys jam starting on August 21st.
Now that the GMTK jam is over we have compiled and released a post jam version of the game that fixes bugs, adds in new features, and changes game balance.
Game Changes
- You can now choose between using a 4, 6, or 8 sided dice! Each dice can only hold an amount of powerups corresponding to its number of sides. Dice with more sides can trigger a wide variety of powerups while dice with less sides can trigger the same ones more often.
- You can now choose which powerup sides you want to assign to your dice. No more being forced into using a certain one.
- Boss battles now have their own phase. Boss enemies have better spawn in animations, a boss bar to show health and regular spawns are disabled while in a boss battle.
- Boss health has been changed from 300 to 2500
- Enemy spawning has been changed to be wave based. Different enemies spawn each minute and each minute has different possible waves it can send out in a run.
- The game timer has been updated to count down to the time to the next boss battle. While in a boss battle this timer "breaks" and displays randomly generated characters every frame.
- Gave bats the ability to move.
- SFX added for walking and throwing dice.
- A custom cursor has been added that increases in size when firing your weapon.
- Increased game time from 15 minutes to 20 minutes + boss battles
- Added damage numbers when an enemy is damaged from any source.
- Added health bars to enemies.
- Gave all attacks a bit of knockback.
- Added hitstun when the player takes damage.
- Knocks back nearby enemies and deals a bit of damage to them after the player takes damage or selects a powerup.
- Added the tab key to pull up the menu to customize your dice.
- Added a dash indicator above the player that decreases in size based on the time left until the next dash.
- Added shadows to enemies and the player.
- Changed the camera to a perspective projection.
- Automatically changes the dice sides on the dice your throw to match your currently equipped powerups.
- Added screenshake to throwing dice, dashing, taking damage and boss spawns
Bug Fixes
- Volume sliders now affect the level theme volume.
- Gravity and magic circle powerups are now functional (although the magic circle powerup still does not show up in the level).
- The mouse now works inside the character select and credits menu.
